President Sandy Gross and a few volunteers from Union County make mainly Disney Princess and Pirate yarn wigs, which are shipped to three of the top ten children’s cancer treatment hospitals in the United States: Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. To date, we have made and shipped over 640 of these wigs to children being treated at these three hospitals. We have also had a few special requests from children around the country, and have sent a special request to a little girl in the United Kingdom.
The expenses for this project are not taken from money raised and donated to #teamcorrie Cancer Foundation unless the donation specifically says it is for the Kids Wigs project, except for the postage to ship the wigs. Most of the volunteers pay for the materials used to make and decorate the wigs themselves so that funds for patients’ grants are not used. We have also received donations of yarn from several schools, Campfire groups, and church groups around Union County, in addition to individual donations to the project.
The Kids Wigs Project is a great way to bring more awareness to #teamcorrie Cancer Foundation and is a delight to see the joy on the faces of these children as they receive their special wigs. If you would like to volunteer to make a wig, donate yarn, or the decorations for the wigs, please contact Sandy Gross at sandy49gross@gmail.com
